Sheet Masking 101

by Lexie langan

Sheet masking seems to be all the rage lately since it is a trending skincare treatment. I wanted to shine some light on the benefits of using them once or twice a week! Using sheet masks are a really fun and inexpensive way to better your skin.

Know Your Skin

It’s important to know what skin type you are. There is a sheet mask out there for EVERYONE!! Some of the most popular are used for:

  • Tightening
  • Brightening
  • Moisturizing
  • Acne Prone Skin
  • Anti-Aging

Be sure to select a sheet mask that fits your skincare needs!! My current favorite would be anything that says it helps to hydrate the skin, especially during seasonal change. You really cannot go wrong with choosing a hydrating sheet mask, even if your personal skincare aim is anti-aging. Hydration really plumps up the skin, which helps to dissipate fine lines and wrinkles.

How to Apply Sheet Masking

It is best to apply your sheet mask before bed so you wake up with hydrated/fresh/dewy skin. I personally like to wine-down at the end of the day with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, a sheet mask, and some world-class entertainment courtesy of Bravo’s Real Housewives!

Prep your skin

Before applying a sheet mask to your face, make sure to wash your face, neck, and décolleté. This prepares the skin to receive all of the essential vitamins and minerals from the essence of the mask.

Smooth the sheet mask out all over the face and try not to have any bubbles. This can be difficult because these are one size fits all.

Read the instruction on the back of your sheet mask and only keep it on for the recommended time. Leaving a sheet mask on longer than instructed backfires. As the sheet mask starts to dry, the essence evaporates while sucking out the moisture from the skin, leaving you dehydrated. Please be mindful.

Do NOT Waste

Use the extra essence that is left over in the sheet mask bag. I’d suggest applying it all over these areas to get the vitamins and minerals into the skin!

  • Neck/Décolleté
  • Arms
  • Legs

Once you are done with the sheet mask, take it off and dispose of it. Don’t forget to rub all of the extra essences into your skin. Your skin will feel sticky, dewy, and refreshed.
